I’ve long enjoyed railfanning at night. Usually the pictures don’t turn out that great, but it’s fun to just hang out and see things you might not otherwise see. Occasionally you get lucky and something stops long enough for you to get a photo. I did just that in May of 2014 at the Martin State Airport MARC station.
Goodbye Ridgely CPLs
CSX is rapidly replacing all of it’s B&O era color position lights. The interlockings in downtown Baltimore seem to be the next to fall. Carroll has already lost its legendary full installation (with three lights above and below the target), and it looks like the signals around Bailey’s Wye are the next to go. A safetrans “Darth Vader” gantry has been installed next to the bridge at Ridgely St, and it looks like it’s ready to be swung into place any day now. Here, a local out of Locust Point / Riverside is coming under both signals in the late […]
Good Timing at Cove PA
There’s an old adage of “I’d rather be lucky than good”. This held true for me on the day after the 2014 Spring CRHS Rail-B-Q when I was driving out Route 11/15 to go meet up with my friends for a day out in Central PA.
Bush St, Baltimore, During the Golden Hour
I really enjoy railfanning at Bush St in Baltimore, especially in the evenings.
Is this the last GP40WH-2 Photo I’ll ever take?
MARC has gotten rid of almost all of their once ubiquitous GP40WH-2s (you know, the things that look like a GP40 fell asleep in Dr. Frankenstein’s lab next to an SD45 and a FP45). That’s why, a few days ago, I was very excited to capture one leading a Baltimore bound train. The lighting was bad (shooting eastbounds in the evening at Bush St is tough), but I’m happy with the way it turned out.
Good Friday Trip: Canton Action
Some waterfront action on the Canton on Good Friday 2014.
April 2014 Trip To Strasburg
I’ve loved Strasburg since I was a kid. In fact, I can almost directly attribute my current railfan and modeling hobbies to monthly trips there when I was young. The spring is a great time to visit, and here are some photos from my recent trip.
An Afternoon In Eastern Maryland
My friend Chris and I had a day to go do some train stuff, and so we did a mix of railfanning and modeling. These are the pics of that day from the CSX Philly Sub and Perryville.
On the Way Home From the CRHS BoD Meeting
The CRHS board and membership meetings wrapped up early enough for us to head home with some light left. This mean that there was some railfanning to be done on the way.
RJ Corman For Lunch
The first CRHS BoD Meeting of the year is a pretty serious affair. It starts early and runs late, but there’s a break for lunch. Instead of just heading to Sheetz, we chased the RJ Corman grain train that had been delivered overnight.
