A few photos from a trip to Harrisburg in March 2009.
CRHS 2008 Altoona Convention
The Conrail Historical Society had its first convention in Altoona PA in the fall of 2008. These photos are from the two days of the event.
A Couple of Chases During the August 2008 CRHS Rail-B-Q
NS gave us quite a show during the August 2008 CRHS Rail-B-Q. They sent us a couple of Conrail leaders, which meant we had to go lay chase.
The East Penn in Kennet Square: June 2008
I’ve always found the former PRR Octoraro Branch interesting. It runs through a rural area that happens to be almost directly in the middle of the Northeasern Megalopolis. It’s also had a changing shortline scene since the beginning of Conrail. I caught the power from its latest owner, East Penn, laying over in the operational HQ of Kennett Square.
CRHS Rail-B-Q May 2008
I was back in Harrisburg a second time in May, this time during the CRHS Rail-B-Q. In 2008, we still saw lots of Conrail stuff too, making it an even better time.
Harrisburg, May 2008
The 2008 found me in Harrisburg a lot. This was a productive day out trackside.
NS Pittsburgh Line: Duncannon & Lewistown, Including A Blue 80MAC
What’s more Conrail than an 80MAC on the Pittsburgh Line? How about a blue 80MAC on a coal train in Lewistown?
February 2008 Harrisburg Railfanning
Back in 2008 it was still possible to see Conrail painted stuff on the point of trains. I was also becoming active in the CRHS, and these were both good reasons to head to Harrisburg PA for the day.
CSX Helpers In Baltimore, in 2007
CSX uses helpers in Baltimore on heavy trains heading through the, surprisingly steep, grade through the Howard St Tunnel. I caught a set of them at work back in 2007 at St. Denis MD.
February 2007 Harrisburg Trip
I really enjoy winter railfanning. One of my first winter trips was back in 2007, when I headed to Harrisburg to get shown around by one of my good friends.
