We had our first organized work session on The CRHS’s archives back in August. Luckily, the NS Pittsburgh Line is right next to the facility where we were working, so we could take a quick break when the Monongahela Heritage Unit showed up.

If you like streetcars, New Orleans is for you
I’m visiting New Orleans for a conference, and decided to get around via streetcar. I imagine this is what it used to be like…
Patapsco and Back River Back When There Was a Patapsco and Back River
The story of Sparrows Point’s decline and eventual destruction is a sad one. I feel that it’s made even sadder for me because some cool stuff seemed pretty accessible, but I never took advantage of it. These are a few photos I took from a trip over there back in 2011.
Pittsburgh, May 2016
It’s been a long time since I was last in Pittsburgh, and even longer since I last did train stuff there. My friend Ben, a Pittsburgh ex-patriot, setup a trip to show some of us around the town he loves.
May 2016 Pittsburgh Trip Part 1: Friday
My friend Ben recently organized a railfan trip back to his homeland: Pittsburgh. It was a great weekend and even though we were fighting the weather, we still had a great time and saw a bunch of fun stuff. The weekend started off with some night photos at the Southwest Penn’s Scottdale facility.
CSX Never Fails to Impress
Today I was out running some errands in Baltimore and had a moment to kill. I happened to notice that some containers were moving south toward the port. It was only when I got ahead of the train did I realize the silliness of modern CSX: it was being led by a long hood forward C40-8W.
Spring Trip to Strasburg
In April of last year I got the chance to bring my friend Josh and his family to a place with great significance for me: The Strasburg Rail Road.
Chasing NS H25 Out of York
I was incredibly excited to catch NS’s “Yorkie” job heading north out of York on the former NCR (that I chronicle modeling over on my other site), and put together a video of the chase.
Retro Photos: The Octoraro /Brandywine Valley / Delaware Valley in the Early 2000
I was really interested in the Octoraro Railroad when I was younger. It was about 30 minutes from home, but seemed incredibly exotic. I was surrounded by CSX’s Philly Sub and the Amtrak Northeast Corridor, but from my Kalmbach railroad guide, I learned that the Octoraro had an all Alco roster running through bucolic country. When I was finally old enough to go on my own, I went to go check it out.
CSX Coal at Curtis Bay
I had a few hours to get out and about today, so, while on my way to go work on some modeling projects with a fried, I swung by CSX’s Curtis Bay yard. I got lucky, catching a coal train just arriving on the scene as I got there.
