My friend Chris and I took the opportunity of a nice November day for me to show him around the parts of the West Side of Baltimore he hadn’t seen yet.

Quick Stop in Harrisburg, November 2014
I was in Harrisburg recently to help a friend move. He offered BBQ and railfanning in exchange. I thought it was a fair trade.
Quick October NEC Scouting Trip
My friend Chris runs a railfan video company, which provides a great excuse to sneak out and go railfanning, even just for a few hours. On this day, we decided to go scouting locations on the NEC in northeastern Maryland and Delaware.
Fall 2014 Middle Division Trip Part 2: Sunday
Picking up from the previous day’s excitement, this one started with a run in with a friend, and then a chase for the ages up the west slope. It then continued with another great chase for some rare mileage, and finally a few minutes at Lewistown, for yet another Conrail classic unit.
Fall 2014 Middle Division Trip Part 1: Saturday
My friend Russ organized a railfan weekend heading out to the NS Pittsburgh Line at the end of September, and it turned out to be the best weekend of railfanning that I’ve had in a long time.
MARC On Saturday at Martin State
MARC has been running on Saturday all year, I happened to be at the Martin State Airport station while showing a new friend around town.
Martin State at Night in May of 2014
I’ve long enjoyed railfanning at night. Usually the pictures don’t turn out that great, but it’s fun to just hang out and see things you might not otherwise see. Occasionally you get lucky and something stops long enough for you to get a photo. I did just that in May of 2014 at the Martin State Airport MARC station.
Goodbye Ridgely CPLs
CSX is rapidly replacing all of it’s B&O era color position lights. The interlockings in downtown Baltimore seem to be the next to fall. Carroll has already lost its legendary full installation (with three lights above and below the target), and it looks like the signals around Bailey’s Wye are the next to go. A safetrans “Darth Vader” gantry has been installed next to the bridge at Ridgely St, and it looks like it’s ready to be swung into place any day now. Here, a local out of Locust Point / Riverside is coming under both signals in the late […]
Good Timing at Cove PA
There’s an old adage of “I’d rather be lucky than good”. This held true for me on the day after the 2014 Spring CRHS Rail-B-Q when I was driving out Route 11/15 to go meet up with my friends for a day out in Central PA.
Bush St, Baltimore, During the Golden Hour
I really enjoy railfanning at Bush St in Baltimore, especially in the evenings.
